In the photo, Professor Bray is teaching a class of talented local high school students about mathematics and how it relates to our understanding of the universe. The class met every week for two hours at the Emily K Center, a nonprofit organization started by the head coach of the Duke Men's Basketball team, Mike Krzyzewski, and named in honor of his mother. This is a great organization that is helping many talented young people in the Durham area. They are always looking for volunteers, and they also appreciate donations.

In 2014, Professor Bray received the Community Service Award from Duke University's Office of Durham and Regional Affairs, as described in this article, for his work with the Emily K Center from 2011 to 2016.

During the 2014, 2015, and 2016 academic years (with plans for 2017), Professor Bray has spent an entire school day at Magellan Charter School in Raleigh giving presentations about the universe to Harrison Do's 6th grade science classes. This annual tradition is usually on the Friday before the entire 6th grade spends a week at Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. Professor Bray comes prepared with a presentation centered around amazing photos of the universe, but spends most of the time answering the students' questions on every conceivable topic.
